April 2026 – Arrival of another new team member

Just before Easter, Chariane Werlang, who received her PhD from the Federal University of Rio Grande, Brazil, has joined our lab. Chariane will work with some of our dinoflagellates in culture, investigating for example their feeding abilities, and she will generate and analyze imaging data. Welcome Chariane!

December 2025 – Arrival of a new team member

Just before Christmas, MitchellRey “Rey” Toleco has joined our team. He has done his PhD at the University of Stavanger, Norway, and in our lab he will develop, among other projects, proteomics approaches for a kleptoplastidic dinoflagellate. Welcome Rey!

December 2025 – TREC Symposium at EMBL Heidelberg

Elisabeth attended the TREC (Traversing European Coastlines) Symposium at EMBL Heidelberg to present the results – a collaborative effort by the whole lab – generated from the samples Kazuya and Elisabeth have isolated at the TREC supersites in Barcelona and Napoli in spring 2024. The talks at the symposium were inspiring throughout and a reminder of what a massive and productive effort the TREC project is representing.
