Several lab members travelled to Seoul to attend the ICOP 2025 – the largest meeting in the field in Protistology which had not taken place since 2017. Elisabeth presented a talk on the first cultured representative of the elusive MALV-III lineage. Kazuya and Kacper, whose attendance was supported by ISOP’s Holz-Conner Travel Awards, presented a two-chapter story of the convoluted evolutionary paths of haptophyte plastids in the dinoflagellate family Kareniaceae. We also took the opportunity to meet and discuss ideas and projects with collaborators and colleges from around the world.
